19th November 2013
It's the third day of our stay here in Kolkata and we've finally done our first Community work. Also. we went to visit the magnificent Victoria Memorial Hall and also the gigantic St Paul's Cathedral.
From our community work, each of us had a different story to tell. Most of which were sad and tragic. We've made friends during our community work and also thru the games we played together. All in all, we've learned to be more appreciative and was humbled by what the handicapped people were like and how the long term volunteers work everyday.
For the girls home, Shanti Dan, the girls were divided into 5 groups. Namely, Butterfly, Star, Birds, Rainbow and Flowers. Our girls had to feed them, wash their clothes, changed their diapers, teach them English, help with physiotherapy and art therapy. All this was for cognitive and motor skills developments. In other words, our girls had a common goal of becoming another Mother Theresa
As for the guys we visited the home, Nabo Jibon. It was divided into 2 groups consisting of 20 children and 85 elderlies. We had to feed the children, clean them up, wash the clothes of both the elderlies and the children and also play games with them.
Sadly however, we are unable to snap up pictures during our stay at the home. Hopefully, tomorrow we will be fortunate enough to be allowed to do so. But in the meantime, here are the pictures from today.
