20th November 2013
On this day, we paid our second visit to our respective homes. Today, we all felt more brave and confident making our job easier at these homes. Furthermore, we also went to visit the Ankur Kala Women's Centre.
For the 7 Girls, Ms Debbie and Ms Tan, they all felt ready and upbeat to face the upcoming challenges. Today, the girls were again divided into 5 groups and were all allocated to children with different abilities. They were ranging from either being physically or mentally disabled or to both being physical and mentally disabled.
In addition, the girls managed to improve our communication skills with them. Patience and endurance are pivotal factors to being a good volunteer. Along with other volunteers from other countries, such as America, our girls managed to pull through another day of community work.
As for the boys + Mr Kwok, they walked through the gates of the home bursting with confidence. They were ready and willing to catch any balls thrown at them. Similar to yesterday, they were divided into 2 groups and further divided into their different job scopes.
And impromptu mini concert was held at the home for the boys and elderly men. We sang several songs and had a huge smile from ear to ear. Some of the occupants were very receptive to our concert and felt really good about ourselves.
An interesting incident occurred to Zaidy whereby an occupant by the name of Minad, had a conversation with him. Minad, though not fluent in english, was able to converse with Zaidy and told him that he had been shot 3 times. Furthermore, Minad told him that he was able to speak 4 Indian dilects which was rather fluent in them. However, the sad part is that his mother has been killed. And today, Minad was wearing the shirt in which his mother died in. When Zaidy told us all that story, we were all thrown aback.
After which, we all went to Ankur Kala womens centre. At this centre, we learnt about the the living conditions of the women and their working life. We also learnt how about the plight of the destitute women and how Ankur Kala saved them.
